INTERNALLY BLACK (SVART INVÄRTES) is a commission work for NORRDANS. It is made for three dancers of the company; Tomáš Červinka, Claudia Fürnholzer and Hanna Nussbaumer. The piece is based on the short story with the same name by Alfhild Agrell.

Agrell was one of the most noted dramatists of the 1880s in Sweden. She was born in Härnösand in 1849. Agrell was a central figure in the Swedish literature of the "The Modern Breakthrough". Agrell advocated for gender equality and in many ways, she was a radical and ahead of her time.

Agrell has long been overlooked and undeservedly forgotten within modern literature. However, during the twenty-first century she has begun to regain her position as one of the most interesting, important and far-sighted authors in Swedish history.

For INTERNALLY BLACK Mari Carrasco wanted to capture the spirit of Agrell and the heartache and madness of the novels leading character. The music is composed by Mikael Karlsson and is recorded by the Nordic Chamber Orchestra
